Subject:Re: Mojo 61 questions... for a D-B3 (Off Topic)

Hi John and Rob,

Let add something here.  I was a Speakeasy dealer for several years back
in the '2000s, and worked with Steve Hayes a bit during that time.  I'm
trying to reply from old memories, so bear with me.

The larger end of the Speakeasy 'pigtail' -- i.e., the 6-pin connector
that kind of looks like a power tube socket --  is the same for the
Leslie 122 and 147, but I have doubts about the other end.  (Leslie
cable pinouts can be found at
http://www.captain-foldback.com/Leslie_sub/pinouts.htm.)
They may look
the same, but the pinouts are probably different. Speakeasy didn't
provide me with schematics for their products, but I'm basing this on
three things:

1. A 147 Leslie uses 120VAC to switch the relay; while the 122 uses a
lower-voltage DC signal added to the audio signal.  These two
methods are NOT compatible.  Mixing Leslie connections can damage
the Leslie, and even shock the user.
2. Steve was always concerned about making sure his products would not
place customers in danger or wreck their gear.
3. There was no 'universal pigtail cable' option on the Speakeasy price
list; customers needed to provide their Leslie model number when
ordering a spare pigtail.

The smaller end of the cable uses a military connector that probably has
7-10 connector pin locations, allowing Speakeasy to make special
versions for different Leslies.  (Some of the pins may be missing; I'm
talking about the maximum number of pins possible.)

If you need a pigtail for your 122, starting with a 147 pigtail may not
get you all the way there.  A photo, however, might help a tech to
understand what you need.

Regards,

-BW
