Yes, but I would think that adding wheels, IF the Electro doesn't respond to them, would be a support nightmare.

Remember, adding synth sounds to the Electro was something of an afterthought.  It doesn't actually have a synth engine; it plays *samples* of popular analog and VA synths.

One thing I've always wondered is:  Does the Stage sound *exactly* like the Electro?  I mean, can't-tell-the difference-on-a-bet the same?  Because if it does, then it begs the question, is Clavia deliberately holding back on the Electro?  If it's different -- especially if the Electro is a little better at certain sounds -- then it implies that there is a difference in the design, and there might be reasons to leave the Electro as-is, even if that means no pitch bend.

All keyboards can be used as a controller, so you’d think that they’d all have pitch bend and mod wheels. Especially when midi sound modules today can be as small and simple to add as an iPhone with a synth app sitting on top of the keyboard..  However, they don’t all have them..  these controls do take up real estate (space) on the keyboard and it adds cost and weight.. and maybe they just don’t see it as worthwhile for the average end user..

Maybe, but you have those controls (and aftertouch!!!!) on the Stage 3.   Earlier iterations of the Stage had the wheel and thumbthingy.
I think it's more due to the Electro's philosophy.   They just kept adding more stuff due to demand, but its not in their best interest to fit the Rolls Royce into their Escort.

I've often suspected that the issue is due to some basic part of the Electro's design.  Not only does the Electro not have pitch and mod wheels, it *cannot respond to the information over MIDI*  Over the years, I'd imagine that Clavia has received thousands of requests for pitch bending on the Electro; if it was a simple addition, I can't see any good reason why they haven't added it.

Prior to ARP using the 3 sensor pads, they actually used a KNOB!  :D

The simple reason why the Electro doesn't have pitch and mod wheels is that they instruments it was designed to replace (vintage pianos and organs) didn't have them. The one exception is the Mellotron, and I have got round that by using a digital pitch shifter pedal to pitch-bend bend the actual audio.

Mod wheels are only useful if you have a modulation source, which the Electro completely lacks. Even if it had an LFO, it lacks the necessary routing to oscillators, filters etc.

But if you consider vintage synths from the 1970s, they didn't necessarily have wheels either. The Minimoog had them in 1971 - earlier Moogs lacked performance controls. Other manufacturers did their own thing - ARP had weird rubber pads; some Yamahas had lateral aftertouch or pitch ribbons. It wasn't until 1978 that the Prophet-5 borrowed the Minimoog's wheels and other companies gradually followed suit.

You made some great points. Why DOESN'T the Electro have mod and pitch wheels? What I was lacking on the VR 09 is the great keyboard action. So nice to have that back. Electro makes me want to play it all.the time.. It helped getting a killer deal.. Nords are so pricey... As are the Kronos... Norm

Still with vr09, but always been almost wanting to pull the trigger on a nord, cant seem to get there.. Why? I guess if everything needed are the pianos and organs then nord I am sure is superior.. and for the price difference it sure better be.. But gee whiz even 500 dollar keyboards have a pitch wheel and/or modulating one, but no, you have to get the stage for that at double the price.. Or gee, even the VR can layer 2 sounds.. the electro gets it all the way to 3.. but of course with the limitation of only one per sound engine.. unlike the VR.. want to get allll the way to 6? why its the stage again.. Then ok, lots of gigging on the weekened at the clubs value real estate.. great the electro can get a 61key version.. but not for thegreat STAGE.. no, god forbid.. Its funny to realize for twice to 3 times the price you get to lose as many features as you gain.. And if I want to get something red I will fire up the old Korg Karma, where you can layer 16 voices.. LOL, but having said all that, I get that many here are only looking at what the organ/piano features are and if thats the case I am sure the Nord is well worth it.. I just think it wouldnt take much to appeal to what I have to think are those who like to explore other voices and be a more complete keyboard.. yamaha sort of attempted it with the modx, they just lose it with the organs.. and too many people are complaining of its fragility in the gig world for me to switch.. any thoughts welcome
