All,

I just wanted to mention I have the Legend and it’s very editable as well via Mac/Windows based editing software. There’s a number of other organ models you can download as well. The Legend series also offers the Legend Solo single manual portable, Legend full size dual manual(two sizes), as well as a module…Not looking for a battle on which is better, etc. just thought I’d mention other options…I saved forever and bought the Legend Joey D. model that’s all black and as close as I’ll ever come to a real Hammond console…I love it…

Cheers,

Brian In Ohio

Agreed. I'll had that I had some chances to play the most recent Legend lately and, while it's great, out of the box I prefer the Mojo by a good margin.

Both instruments are very customizable and I'd be curious to have a legen home to see if I could craft a sound I like on it, though..

I wouldn’t discount the Mojo XT quite so quickly... The Mojo XT is basically a Windows PC running VB3CE2 software (version 2 VB3), but the windows PC architecture really isn’t obsolete. This Windows PC architecture has thousands of technology applications.

The newer products from Crumar do use a newer architecture (products such as the Mojo 61/Gemini modules), and Crumar has stated that there will be no more updates for the Mojo/Mojo XT, but what exactly needs updating? The Mojo XT, sound-wise, is arguably, as good as ANY current product on the market, whether it’s the new Hammond XK-5 or the viscount Legend, or any of the HOAX based products.. the VB3 II engine is “fully formed”, and it doesn’t really require any further development.. It has awesome authentic tonewheel organ sound, including an excellent built in leslie sim, and it’s complete, as is.

The Mojo XT has a built in power supply (no wall wort), and a built in leslie cable output, which improves the functionality significantly (these are things I wish my original Mojo had) and the XT has the newer light touch keyboard, which is a joy to play. If I was looking for a new dual manual organ, and my budget was $2500, I would give the XT serious consideration. I would take it over the Hammond SK2 or SKX (because the tonewheel emulation is far superior in the Mojo XT). The Mojo XT does use an external editor, BUT that’s not a bad thing.. It’s much easier to edit the numerous editable parameters using the Windows based editor than using a small LED screen!!

I would also consider a Mojo 61, with the custom lower manual, primarily because it does have the newer architecture which allows for further development of the extra sounds/voices (the Mojo 61 has superb EP/Clav and Combo organ sounds).. I expect that there will be further development on this product.

The legend is a great choice too, especially if you’re looking for a more traditional interface, but the Mojo XT sounds and plays too good to discount it. There are situations where this might be the right choice for someone.

As an original Mojo owner, I would advise against getting the Mojo XT. It's based on the same obsolete technology as the Mojo (essentially a Windows PC inside a controller), and Crumar has essentially abandoned it in terms of updates. Its functionality is awful, and editing can only be done either by buying an external editor or taking off the rear panel and attaching a mouse and monitor. Instead I'd recommend going for the Mojo 61, which is Crumar's current Mojo model and the only one Crumas seems to be committed to supporting. Its architecture is much different, it has a number of extra keyboard voices that are better that average ones included in the XT, it can edited using wireless devices and you can add a lower keyboard to it to create a double keyboard at around the same price as getting the XT (although you will only have set of drawbars to control them with).Another alternative is the DMC-122 controller/Gemini module combination, which gives you the same organ used in the Mojo 61 along with a number of other very good keyboard sounds. The main difference is that the keyboard in the DMC-122 is not the same one used in the Mojos--it's optimized more for general keyboard playing, whereas the Mojos have one optmized for organ playing. If you want an pure B3 and don't need the extra sounds, you may also want to consider one of the Viscount Legend models which many consider to be superior in terms of sounds and ergonomics than the Mojo 61.
