On the Keyboard Corner Forum, there is a 2000+ thread on the Spacestation
V3. For man small/medium gigs, I feel mine works very well. If you spend
the time and peruse the Forum, you¹ll find out that positioning of the V3 on
stage can greatly affect it¹s ³bloom², as Aspen Pitman described it. I used
to have a pair of QSC K10¹s. They were part of a QSC K Series sound
reinforcement system I owned that included a pair of of the powered subs and
K12¹s. Onstage fo K10¹s were great. However, The placement of the pair for
me to enjoy the stereo field was a double edged sword at times. Coverage for
the other band members always was a struggle for either turning up or
turning down. With the Spacestation, that issue simply went away. The
players on the opposite side of the stage began to comment how they now
heard me and were very pleased with how my sounds were really filling up
the stage at a volume level that rarely was an issue anymore. If needed,
they simply had a bit of me going through their monitors to accentuate what
they needed to hear And then there were times when a large casino stage
simply required me to leave my V3 in my vehicle and I relied on stage
monitors myself, thankfully with the support of mostly experienced stage
sound guys to dial my sound in. Many times FOH simply had to have less of me
for the mains due to the quality of what he heard coming off the stage. The
compact footprint of it, placement in my stage acreage was never a problem.I
know Aspen personally through his daughter, whom I used to work with at
Numark, Alesis and Akai. His vision and passion for designing a keyboard amp
has been a lifelong dream and an immense amount of design and engineering
effort was in the making
At NAMM a few years back, I heard many types of bands perform with simply a
pair of V3¹s and it was really impressive. His larger XL model was actually
designed to be used as a sound reinforce system for larger venues, not
merely for keyboard amplification. When I purchased mine, Aspen and I had
numerous lengthy phone calls where he helped me understand it¹s concept (at
times, with over my head engineering speak)m What really sold me was was
his suggestion
To run a drum track through it at a fairly nominal volume level and work out
of the room and listen to its ³bloom². It was amazing to hear how the sound
flowed out of my studio, literally making it feel like the V3 was in the
space I was standing. Another time, I had the V3 cranking nearly at max
volume with a music source running through it and being upstairs where my
dining and living room have 11 ft high cathedral ceilings. What I was
hearing literally blew me away. The Spacestation is truly an incredible
engineering feat. As I said, YMMV, and one¹s current choice in stage
amplification may be perfectly suited for that purpose, but as I have said,
in general, it definitely has suited my pst and current needs, and I have no
plans to change that.
In retrospect, any questions or concerns about it¹s performance in regards
to anyone playing left hand bass, the Keyboard Corner thread has literally
hundreds of discussions regarding the integration of powered subs that the
Spacestation actually is designed to accommodate.
