From another Bruce who also appreciates Bruce W (thanks for the vent!)
To put some perspective on 128dB...decades ago (mid-70s) I built a pair of corner folded horns, bi-amped with home-built 50W solid state and 25W tube (rebuilt Heathkit W-5s, I think). One afternoon I cranked them up with o-scope to see clipping onset with two towels wrapped around my head (I am smiling as I type this...I was 20 something). Measured 116dB average 4 feet away (slow response on the sound level meter - A Radio Shack original - don't laugh - that particular unit was well-thought of at the time). Anyway - with apartment doors and windows shut my wife heard it 2 blocks away coming down the street with her car windows up...

128dB enables peaks - Help us all that we never approach that level average... Now I am a certified industrial hygienist (to pay for the keys that I play at church) and we often do sound studies in industrial settings (manufacturing, etc.).
