I just now got in from a gig where I tried out my “new” 1958 C3 chop. I had been using an XK33c rig with a ventilator for years and just added a Lounsberry Tall and Fat. It sounded pretty good but like all clones it was just lacking the openess and bite of a good tonewheel organ. I just picked up this chop a couple of weeks ago and it still has the original AO-28 preamp (unlike a lot of chops that use the Trek preamp to save a little weight and space) and is a really nicely built chop. I haven’t found a 122 yet so I built an interface so I could use the Ventilator in the meantime. Everything the clones “try” to emulate was suddenly there. If you can put up with the extra weight this is the way to go. I had so much fun playing this thing tonight I think I might just get rid of the XK3c system (but I am keeping the Ventilator). The clones are a great compromise for weight but they are a compromise and it had been so long since I had an actual B3/C3 console I forgot how much better the sound was. There are some real bland sounding B3/C3 organs out there for sure but if you find a good one it is magic!

Subject: [CWSG] Overdrive Pedals for B3 Clones

I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck finding an appropriate overdrive/distortion pedal that works well with a B3 clone (in my case, a Nord Stage). I'm already using a Neo Ventilator for the Leslie Sim but the Overdrive on-board isn't cutting it for that Deep Purple / Steppenwolf sound.

I've tried several OD pedals for guitar but they all seem to flatten the sound and remove a lot of needed harmonics.

I'm aware of Greg Lounsberry's Organ Grinder pedal and already use his Wurli Grinder pedal to beef up the electric piano sounds on the Nord but $200 is a bit out of my price range these days.

Has anyone any pedals to recommend?
