type 3 is in there, the values on the drawbars is in there, metronome is in there.. I didnt get a chance to check today, another person said I had to hit menu efx and then arrow up.. so I guess I will know tomorrow.. and if its not there.. i will reinstall.. then check for it before reloading my old registrations, hopefully reloading the old registrations is not the cause of the od disappearing..

Art, it's actually the second parameter in the EFX section.. press menu, EFX then move down one parameter (first is Phaser) then you should see the OD/Mix Dry Level.. if not, the only thing I can assume is that your update did not work.. But if you see TYPE 3 leslie the update must have worked.. so?
Have another look.. and if you don't see it, look for TYPE 3 leslie and if you don't see THAT your update didn't work, if you do see TYPE 3 leslie, something really weird is happening..

I think it's the first parameter in the EFX section..

I have to say that I've never been a fan of the roland VK/VR engine.. it was always just a bit off, and I not bought the VR-09 because I was looking for an inexpensive backup for my Mojo/Kronos (the VR-09 is capable of replacing either in a pinch). At 12 pounds you just can't beat the value in this little box. Now I am a huge fan of the value of the VR-09, and whenever Roland brings out an update with new features or fixes, I get excited!!
With "all-in-one" keyboards, like the SK1 and the VR-09, there are always tradeoffs.. The SK1 may have better hammond sound but I think that the VR-09 is FAR superior when you look at it's other capabilities (the ability to layer ANY two sounds together, easy to use interface, built in FA synth, broader cross section of better sounds, including big Roland Strings and fat Jupiter synths etc).
Out of the box, neither of the organs sounds particularly great and to get the SK1 sounding it's best you need to heavily tweak it and load a custom tonewheel set. Then, if you're fussy, you'll probably buy an external leslie sim, like the Ventilator, to resolve the SK1's shortcomings (weak leslie sim and overdrive). However, if you just add a Ventilator to the VR-09, it improves it's hammond sound dramatically. Sound-wise, I'll take a VR-09+Ventilator over a stock SK1. With a Ventilator, the VR09 organ is pretty comparable sound-wise to the SK1, but the extra voices on the VR-09 are, to my ears, far superior.
The new version of the VR-09 OS has done two things that remarkably improve the basic sound of the VR-09. First they have created a new "TYPE 3" leslie sim which is significantly better than the original "TYPE 1/2" sims. Second they have added an overdrive "mix" parameter which dramatically improves the usability of the overdrive. On the original VR-09 the OD knob worked almost like an off and on switch, whereas now, with this mix parameter, you set it to max and the OD knob now has a nice, more gradual, and useable control over the overdrive.
I'm not trying to argue about which sounds better.. we all know that different people hear this stuff differently (and the basic SK engine does sound a bit better than the VR-09 engine). I just wanted to make the point that your suggestion to "trade up" to an SK1 isn't the only way to "trade up". You can dramatically improve the VR-09 organ sound by simply adding a Ventilator to your VR-09. IF you do THAT, you get to keep all the other great features and sounds that come with the VR09 and have a great sounding organ too..
I upgraded my VR-09 yesterday to the new OS version, and I've only heard it through my studio monitors, but the new leslie sim sounds great and the new overdrive mix parameter has dramatically improved the useability of the OD. Today I'm going to hook the VR-09 up to my two QSC K10's and see exactly how good it the VR-09 organ sounds when I push the volume up a bit!!! Should be fun..
BTW, I never expected to see another update for this 4+ year old product, and I was pleasantly surprised and excited at the list of new sound and features. Kudos to Roland for their support. They have definitely listened to the users to come up with these two new features.. I do wish they had fixed some of the other annoying aspects of the VR-09..
Sorry for rambling.. I am still amazed at what you can get out of this 12 pound $700 keyboard..

I agree with Ben...I like it because I have gotten what I can out of it..The Hammond sound really sucks though..The Little Hammond SK1 is far superior...Time to trade up.

I don't expect that we'll get answers for these questions until the new models are released and owners start testing things for themselves.

One of the most annoying issues on the original for me was having one knob adjust 2 things on an effect simultaneously. It rendered the effects section useless.
