Subject:OT Piano Woes
Hi All!!
I know this is off-topic, but I really respect your opinions as far as gigging keyboards go.
I've been using a Yamaha MOX8 (52" 32.6#) as a bottom keyboard mainly for pianos and a few other sounds and a Roland VR-09 for strings, organs (with a Ventilator), and synths. I screwed up my gigging MOX8 from 4 years of rough handling (works consistently enuff for my studio but needs repeated rebooting for gigs). I do have another MOX8, but decided it was time for a lighter keyboard. (Bad back, 2 replaced knees, etc).
I first tried a Roland RD-64 (26lbs, 43") which has 64 weighted keys and 12 basic sounds. I liked the weighted keys, I wasn't thrilled with the sounds and the fact that the different sounds had different volumes and the keyboard was in no way programmable.
I then went to a Yamaha MOX6 which has the same sounds as my MOX8 but only 61 non-weighted keys.
Love the sounds, but hated the lack of a piano feel and only 61 keys.
Then a Kurzweil SP4-7 (26# and 43') which is 76 semi-weighted keys and has 128 sounds including a LOT of pianos and electric pianos (as well as organs, brass, strings, etc, etc). The pianos are thin.
I wish Yamahaha made a 76 key piano, but they don't. I really love the Yamaha piano sound.
Any suggestions or should I just go to the gym and bulk up and use my MOX8??? I believe a few of you use Casio Pianos. What do you think of them??? They're light and a great value.
THanx!! JP
PS: I have a few keyboards for sale now unfortunately.......
