A recording from many years ago (1997). I was a little over 18 at the time,
before I went to university to read computing mathematics. This was my
first gig with professional musicians, depping for the venerable Paul Buck.
I was playing a Technics KN2000 and I think a Yamaha SY85 at this point
(KN2000 providing the organ patch - keyboard action is supposedly
essentially the same as that on the current Kronos). The band is APO, a
well known and loved band from Cheltenham, UK.
Sadly the saxophonist (my clarinet / sax teacher and a good friend) is now
suffering from frontal lobe dementia, and the bassist died this morning
from cancer. He ran a guitar/bass specialist shop in Cheltenham that many
great young musicians in this area have got their first instruments from.
I've just lost a great friend and a mentor, role model, let alone a
phenominal musician.
Mark Howell: RIP, friend and much loved father, husband, let alone musician.
