You would think that you could do it using the EXP input… however acceleration is not modelled when using the EXP (according to manual) so that wouldn’t work. I wonder how that might sound even using EXP, do you get the same acceleration on horn and rotor? That probably sounds weird.

It seems that you would have to hack the footswitch to be able to use a halfmoon.

For the money, I think it's worth looking into modding an extension switch for the speed. From the operation description, I'll bet it just a momentary SPST. (Forget the bypass switch, it's on ALL the time) There might even be room inside to install a jack, although you might need to use a mini 1/8". It might be cool to run a connection for an external LED but wait...now I'm just going too far...
