For the money, I think it's worth looking into modding an extension switch for the speed. From the operation description, I'll bet it just a momentary SPST. (Forget the bypass switch, it's on ALL the time) There might even be room inside to install a jack, although you might need to use a mini 1/8". It might be cool to run a connection for an external LED but wait...now I'm just going too far...
