It is indeed possible on the HOAX, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11Si_dzCuQs but I don't think it goes through midi. I think this is a controller hooked up directly to the analog inputs used for key position.
Standard MIDI is definitely too slow for this type of controls .

I mentioned this only because I thought I had read somewhere someone saying that this was possible with the HOAX chip...

Craig, I doubt it. MIDI -- at least, traditional MIDI -- can't handle the short-term bandwidth. I've played around with the MIDI Solutions Event Processor a lot over the years, and found that duplicating data can be a dangerous game. If we assume that a fast organist can play smears, palm glisses, and chops at say, one new note every 4-5ms -- sounds like a lot, but it's possible in short bursts with certain organ techniques -- that says we have to be able to send 9 Note-On messages (and probably some Note Offs, too) in that same time. Each Note On message takes about 1ms, so the 'pipe' is overflowing. And that doesn't count expression pedal pumping, drawbars, etc. I think what H-S has done is take a 3-switch keybed, which is becoming common in higher-end digital pianos, and adapting it to an organ action. Then they probably do something like this INTERNALLY:
- When the first switch closes, trigger the first 3 drawbars (16', 5-1/3', 8'). This is basically the 'hot' action of the Nord, Korg, etc.
- If the second switch closes before the first switch opens -- might not happen -- then also trigger the middle three DBs
- If the third switch closes before the first switch opens, then also trigger the top three DBs.
It might not be split into 3-3-3; maybe 2-3-4 or something. This would impart some of the animation that a real B-3 has, especially on examples like the intro to Deep Purple's Hush. But none of it would transfer through MIDI to another sound module. It might be possible with USB MIDI -- if everyone agrees that USB MIDI can take over the higher bandwidth of USB when necessary. I'm not sure if that's feasible.

I misunderstood. By 9 stack do you mean that the individual tones of each note are triggerable via midi?
