I've heard it's when the bottom rotor (usually) motors on a Leslie are
unplugged so only the top horn rotates. I've also heard of it the other
way when the horn motors are unplugged so only the bass rotor rotates. I
sometimes used to unplug the top fast motor so at slow speed the Leslie
worked as usual and at high speed the bass rotor spun around and the treble
horn stopped - a pretty nice effect
