  Tony,
Are you putting the Speakeasy before, or after the vent?On Feb 12, 2016 10:06 AM, "tonysounds tonysounds@yahoo.com [CloneWheel]" wrote:

The Rolie sound we love was the result of an organ and leslie in dire need of maintenance.  But to  be sure, if my malfunctioning gear sounded like THAT, I wouldn't change it either.
The SK1 on its own won't get that sound....not for the discerning ear.  I've had great results using my Sk1 into a MiniVent.  My minivent has 2 settings, both identical except the 2nd setting has a little more drive.  I feed that setting with some drive from my Sk1, and THEN I have a pretty good vibe to it.  Here's a link to a session I did not too long ago, using that Sk1 OD into MiniVent. TuMan Presents: Time For The Medicine

That said, I just recently acquired an original Speakeasy Vintage Tube Pre with the Barker mod.  Long-timers know I was involved with Steve Hayes on a number of projects and products, but after not owning any Speakeasy gear for a few years, I have to say that thing just Kills it.  I can easily get Rolie tone with that pre....as well as just about any other B3 sound.

Nothing sounds quite like a 145/147/122 driven to distortion.  There are thousands of distortion pedals designed to emulate overdriven Tweed amps and Vox amps and blackface Fenders and Marshall stacks and every other overdriven guitar amp on the planet.  But, I don't know if there is a pedal made to sound like the overdriven amp and speakers of a Leslie without the rotating effect (which you don't need).  The Ventilator has nice overdrive and my Nord C2 (with the C2D OS) doesn't have a great Leslie sim, but the overdrive sounds so real it makes me afraid I'm going to blow a speaker.  The funny thing is that I had to play so many years with an overdriven Leslie just to be loud enough that now (using my Vent and a very loud sound system) I play the whole night with that pristine, squeaky clean sound of a Leslie being played at low to medium living room volume!

In an interview, Gregg Rolie said that when he started playing with Santana, his 145 sounded really clean. After a LOT of gigs at high volume, it started breaking up and sounding the way we love it to sound!Having said that, there's always the danger of destroying your treble driver by doing that. I think there are more authentic overdrives than the SK-1 one though I don't know which! The sound your after is kind of the hoy grail of organ sounds, I think. The valve pedals by Thomas Reussenzehn in Germany looks interesting. I can't translate the website though. https://youtu.be/u9nD4TodQoU
