If they work in other instrument (and in Yamaha instruments), then
they are not dirty.

Maybe it expects different pot (there are linear or logarithmic), or
sometimes it's enough to exchange two wires in the pedal - which is
what I did with FC7 to work well with Roland or Kawai instruments.
