i did backline for a named horn player. they wanted a B rig. the keys player was quite good, a berklee graduate hung with herbie, his mentor, played the snot out of piano sounds. the player had a synth set up facing the crowd the B was facing the drummer. i noticed that he got a better organ sound out of the synth than he did out of the real thing. after the gig i saw he used the presets on the ham. why? because he didn't know anything about drawbars. but what did his boss the horn player know?

i got paid anyway...

guitar vs keys? that's a multi-fold reason why there are more guitar players than keys players. you look cooler behind a guitar with a neon stuck under the strings at the head stock than behind a stack of boards where you're lucky if your pate is seen. guitars are way cheaper than keys and easier to haul around. you don't always need AC to hear your guitar.

then it all comes down to interest. some people just like to play more than one instrument.

i think more musicians should be multi-instrumentalists. that will help everyone. like someone who can speak 7 languages, you would really get around.
always wanted to play sax.
