craig i always use a real leslie. and as it is easier to set up and tweak, a clone in the studio for pads. am not doing anything that needs two manuals and pedals. guess i'm wanting the touch response of the 9 stack which i've always missed playing a clone. i have the real thing just feet away but it takes time to set up and then i'm away from the mixer and daw having to dart back and forth. with a clone you can tweak the controls easier which makes it suitable for recording vs. the real thing which is dependent on the mics and the mixer. you can't boost anything on the real thing.
i agree the xk-5 at this point is not for everyone.
if a midi controller with 9 stack were available that can convert any clone module then perhaps i would go that way. i'm still using 2002 roland technology and still have not grown tired of the sound as i'm able to get the sounds i need out of it. it's all in the wrist. how do you think he does it i don't know...
yes time will tell. wear and tear etc. something important to consider. just out of the gates must be bugs needing fixed. the usual proto-type blues..
