Subject:Re: Hammond XK-5 and 3 Contacts

I'm with the guys that don't think that the "9 virtual contact" scheme is that big a deal.. FIRST of all, it is just another "scheme" it is NOT the real deal, it is still a simulation.. Is it a better simulation than exists today in other clones? Maybe, maybe not, maybe it's marginally better, and maybe it's a lot better. We don't really know yet..

I have this image of the design team, with engineers, marketing, product specialists etc. all gathered around the table discussing what the product should look like when one of the engineers says "hey, if we just add one more switch to the keyboard, we can use it to press on the keys really slowly, and pretend that we are triggering 9 switches" and immediately the other engineers start frowning and looking at each other while the marketing guy falls off his chair!!!! Right now it's just marketing hype, and as I said before, it's going to be a while before us players get to play it, even longer before we can take delivery of one, and even longer than all of that before most of us could afford one.

I do think that IF the new scheme is really good, only certain players with certain playing styles will really appreciate it.. I'm asking myself if I would benefit from it (any excuse to purchase new gear).. It would be interesting to try playing Deep Purple's "Hush", with it's percussive intro, to see if the XK-5 is any more playable or sounds more authentic, and/or adds any substantial texture..
