Between 1992-2002 I've been working for Yamaha as a Product Specialist
and clinician, and they did the same with some instruments in times
when OS was still in EPROMs, not in Flash and easily updatable.

During the production they changed and improved OS step by step. For
example DX7 Mark I had 4 OS versions, TX81z 5.

Usually changes were not so big or easily recognizable - like reaction
to MIDI data, or similar bugs.

When somebody had lower OS version, found the bug by chance and
complained, they changed EPROMs.
