there is this trend to send out lemons to see if anyone complains. then if and when someone detects a problem, they deal with you especially if it's still under warranty.
so run these things hard while under warranty as if a motherboard/power supply goes out, it's almost the cost of a new unit.
had this same discussion in a pro video editor forum; they noticed the top of the line video monitors that cost $1k a piece were showing up with problems brand new. come to find out the manufacturer sends out the defective units to third world countries to see if anyone is astute enough to notice. so with today's economy and a very little difference as to what's 1st and 3rd world, it's caveat emptor squared.
let's just consider that it's a big gamble if any of these motherboard varieties will be around as long as their clone molds have been.
either the parts wear out and can't be isolated to save the board, or the board itself starts losing its traces like what happened to my polysix. and that was a 1980's edition. it's been sitting dead in its case for 30 years. worked great for 5. can't find the parts although someone in OZ land makes recreation board replacements for 5 benjamins. but then does it sound like the original?
no one makes anything to last anymore.
