Oh - I wish you well with this.  I tried the same angle (new chip or board) and it went to a dead end.  In the end they offered to give me a credit towards a numa II.  The value they gave for a numa I was laughable.  I still have the numa I, which is not in use and upgraded to the GSI DMC-122Good Luck.

Alright – a quick update for everyone.  I’ve been in touch with GG at Studiologic and it turns out my Numa 1 is not able to be upgraded via USB (serial number is below 500 – my bad for looking at more than the last 4 numbers). We’re continuing to discuss options.  I really like the Numa, and don’t want to replace it, but I don’t feel right putting this keyboard out on the market when it can’t be upgraded, so I’m going to see if we can find a way to upgrade it (e.g., a new IC chip or board) and move forward/on.  Stay tuned.  From: mailto:CloneWheel@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, November 12, 2015 8:40 AMTo: CloneWheel@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [CWSG] Updated Numa V1 with Windows   Yeah, this has been a problem with Studiologic for years.  Given that they are an offshoot of Fatar, who owns 80-90% of the current keybed market, they have always had a golden opportunity to dominate -- if not own -- both the clonewheel and MIDI master keyboard markets.  But their efforts don't seem to be well supported by Fatar, and every Studiologic keyboard I've owned has had at least 1-2 extremely annoying 'features' to work around.  And as others have mentioned, their tech support is underpowered:  getting them to even confirm that something is expected behavior is difficult; getting them to *fix it* is wishful thinking.

is the MIDI implementation on the NUMAII improved over the NUMAI ? I also owned two but had to return both of them to Guitar Center. Guitar Center no longer carries the NUMA! LOVED the sound, but too buggy and little support.  Leo

I look back on my experience with the original Numa with sadness :-(   Seriously, I loved the sound, and the layout! However, mine was buggy as hell, half way through a performance the controls started doing strange things.. Drawbars would start controlling overall volume and pitch and every control panel change would have completely unpredictable results... This happened several times..  Furthermore, the midi implementation was buggy, and as a controller it sucked (despite having huge potential as a 73 note controller).. The documentation sucked, not all midi modes were even documented, and you couldn't separate the sustain pedal from Leslie speed control (so every time I hit the sustain pedal, while playing an acoustic piano via external sound module, the Leslie speed would change, and you couldn't disable this.   Had I been able to get any kind of support from studio logic, The eventual outcome (me returning the unit after a month) might have been quite different..  But I couldn't get a hold of them no matter how hard I tried.  Had I been able to get a hold of GG, perhaps things would be different. Despite all the problems I really liked the Numa!!   Craig

f.y.i. - I worked extensively with Numa Support to try to update my Numa 1 organ after I purchased it. GG at Studiologic worked with me on it and provided excellent timely support.  I ended up returning it it to the musical instrument vendor I purchased it from and purchased the Numa II organ from Kraft Music.  The NUMA II is far superior to the Numa 1.  The tones are more Hammond like, the Leslie sim and overdrive are improved and the most notable improvement is the keyboard action.  This is the best clonewheel IMO I have ever owned and I have owned most of the crop, Hammond XK3, XK1-C, Roland VK, Korg CX3, Nord, etc.  Below is my final conversation with GG:

Hello Richard, I'm sorry for the time you lost, but if the serial number is the one you sent there was no reason why the instrument could not be updated, unless it was serviced and had the internal boards substituted with older ones, not updatable with the new Software despite the external serial number.... but this is only a personal and extreme supposition, since no other reason is know for what you verified. In any case your decision is probably the right one, unless you ask the dealer to make the update for you and get some answer on the matter. Let me know, thanks and regards !
