I don't think... Customers were not only churches. Hammond organs were
sold also to private homes since the beginning, among famous owners
were Gershwin, Ford, Schweitzer... I don't know detailed statistics
how many instruments were sold to churches and how many to homes.
Ethel Smith did her successful record of Tico Tico in 1944... it can
be supposed there were more organists like her outside the church.
AFAIK Jimmy Smith used B-3 model which was in production since 1954,
his first record is from 1955, famous Blue Note records started since
1956... This doesn't mean anything wrong or bringing down his
importance and contribution to organ playing. But there were other
organists years before him, outside the church.
