I hear you, Brian. I am using it for Cars, Huey Lewis, etc. It sounds great and is easy to program.

I’m starting to get into the synth on the VR-09…it really adds a lot of flexibility to the board. It works great for 80’s synth stuff…for the money I don’t think you can go wrong… Cheers,Brian In Ohio From: CloneWheel@yahoogroups.com [mailto:CloneWheel@yahoogroups.com]

Subject: [CWSG] VR-09 - church service I finally got a chance to use the VR-09 in a church worship team setting this morning. So far I've used it with a classic rock horn band, a small duo, in a band at a prison, and a blues combo. At the prison gig, it was a HOT HOT day (97+ degrees) and no shade. Had we not covered the VR-09 with a white sheet it may have conked out. The guitarist's amplifier tube quit a couple times (he had to thump it back to life). But despite the heat (and the keys got pretty hot), the VR-09 performed flawlessly (although seeing whether the red lights were lit or not were a challenge.
This morning I got compliments on the sound - which was mostly piano and soft pad sounds, either layered and mixed with the expression pedal, or split. For one tune, I needed to switch fast between a pad/piano split and a pad/synth split, which I did just by picking the synth sound from the board real-time - the last selected sound came up as someone else noted in another forum. I thought of using another registration, but found in this case it wasn't needed. Also, I was able to sustain notes while switching registrations, which was critical given the flow of songs. I'm extremely glad that the 1.03 update fixed the re-trigger issue. Through the church PA (and headphone mix), the sounds, even piano, did sound decent. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to use the organ this Sunday.
So nothing earth-shattering, but playing the VR-09 in this setting was something I was hoping to do, and it performed like a champ. I also found that the power supply for the church's Roland Jupiter 50 works with the VR-09 - probably it's the exact same PS. So, reusing the damper pedal, all I had to load in/out was the keyboard and expression pedal. Talk about traveling light!
