Subject:Re: Ventilator with real Hammond
Pat, Nope, it ain't sacrilege, if you don't have room you don't have room. I've used the vent for scratch tracks so it didn't bleed through (a loud leslie is hard to isolate for most of us), and kept a few that were good takes, nobody noticed for the most part in the mix. I'm not going to lie, a real leslie is better recorded, but the vent'll do if a leslie isn't available. TheM3's perc'll peak the ins of the vent, I'd shove it through a tube pre first. A while back I did a series of recordings with different clones and leslies and sims. I tried keeping them close to the same solo sounds for comparison and was so sick of that backing track when I was done, so ignor the playing. It's also very overdriven, so if you like it clean this might not help. Enough excuses, this one's an m3 througha vent Dennis Wieand http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11896425

I'm hoping - as a new guy in the group - you'll help me out with a non-clonewheel question - especially as it has to do with Leslie simulators. (I do own a Numa as well :) ).
If it's better in another group, let me know and I'll move it over there.
Here's the question, and I know it's sacrilege:
I have two Hammond M3's, but not enough studio space (or isolation) to have a real Leslie for recording (though I do want to get a real one - nothing like the sound of a Leslie in any room).
Is anyone using a Ventilator (or other sim) with a real Hammond? Ideas? Success? Fail? Other thoughts?
