Subject:Re: Couple of Youtube vids of the HX3 live
convincing enough. i've seen TOP live a number of times, big midwest auditorium, small club keystone berkley, to san diego swap meet. all chester.
the HX's got some tone. and the WIH clip worked enough to get low end out of the organ heard even if a phone.

For anyone interested in the HX3 module, I used it on the weekend at the Beaches Jazz Festival in Toronto, and I thought I might post a couple of recordings. For the second year in a row, I sat in with my friends band "Soulfulofunk" at the festival, and last year I just used my Kronos and it's CX3 engine for organ sounds, but this year I brought my new HX3 module and used that in place of the CX3 engine, and I have to say that I was very impressed with the HX3.
A couple things... first of all, these are phone recordings and the audio quality is about what you'd expect, from a phone. Second, this kind of R+B funk soul isn't really my thing (I'm a classic rock guy) so what you'll hear is a pretty mediocre imitation of Chester T.. ;-) Lastly.. on Saturday night my HX3 module fell off my Kronos and landed square on the concrete behind my keyboard in the middle of a song! Good news is that it worked perfectly before, during, and after crashing on the ground, and there isn't a mark on it.. Not sure what magic happened here but I'm going to assume that the module must be pretty well built! Unfortunately, on the first song the HX3 isn't up quite high enough in the mix (for my liking), but you'll get the idea. For anyone wondering about the configuration/amplification.. I'm playing the HX3 from my Kronos via midi, and I'm running the HX3 audio right back into my Kronos (so there's no need for a mixer to combine my Kronos and HX3 audio), and I've added a touch of Kronos reverb on the HX3 audio, then it's out to a QSC K10 monitor, then to the FOH.
First, here's a clip of us doing Tower of Powers song, Only So Much Oil from Friday night.. (note our trumpet player was missing)

Here's a clip of us doing Tower of Power's "What Is Hip" on Saturday night.. The good news is that the HX3 is a little higher in the mix and sounds better on this tune, but the bad news is that my performance kind of sucks on this song.. but you can get a better idea of the HX3 sound from this video.

I'm absolutely thrilled with this module!! It gives me a lot more flexibility to put together a smaller/lighter rig whenever I feel like it! (hopefully these clips work)
