Subject:Re: Need advice on pedals and technique with SK2
Hi Adam,
I've been playing organ for 40 years and learned on a Wurlitzer spinet organ with 13 note bass pedalboard that my folks rented from the local music store. As an adult I gravitated toward Hammond clones but always stuck with a 13 note pedalboard since that's what I learned on, and it always sounded good enough to me!
Fast forward to today and my primary "home studio" setup is a Hammond XK-3 dual-manual setup, with an older Korg MPK-130 MIDI pedalboard. I also have a set of Roland PK-5 pedals that are very similar in dimension to the Korg MPK-130 which I like equally well, and use primarily for gigging with a 2nd single-manual XK-3.
I recently bought a used Hammond XPK-100 pedalboard to try out, thinking that "Hammond must be better" and I did *NOT* like it at all! The pedals are noticeably "shorter" in length than the Korg and Roland bass pedals, and felt VERY weird to me. I cannot recommend the Hammond pedals for that reason. I don't play heel and toe techniques (I'm a "toe" guy only!) so I cannot say for certain that the XPK-100 would not be compatible with that technique, but I wouldn't even try it myself since the pedals are so short.
Good luck,
Lou
