i can see where one would consider that, and if you already had a clone that wasn't a shining example of one and wanted to take a leap forward, your explanation is spot on.
but if someone is getting a clone and choosing to thumbs one down just because of the sim, then that negates the clone because of the sim. what if the clone sounds great even with a so-so sim only needing a real leslie or better sim? you would also think that perhaps in the case of ham-suz, since they, and only they, make real leslies, why clobber your own market?
they've (ham-suz) already relegated to the clone market as that's what the market seems to be bearing. not too sure digital B3's are flying out the dealer's doors vs their clone line as the old tonewheel market is still in force with refurbished ones.
not all clones sound the same. i would not choose a nord as i dont like the sound... for organ.
to pick the lester sim over the source is backwards imho.
as in microphones, the axiom is; the weaker a singer is, the better a mic they need.. seems to be what your position implies.

I'm not suggesting that you pick your Leslie sim first and then "back into" a clone.. But the Leslie sim is perhaps the most important aspect of clone emulation.

I think you'll find that the Hammond SK sim is not great when compared to the ventilator, and honestly I would expect that you'll be disappointed by it. From a pure organ sound standpoint, I would probably take the NE2+ventilator over the SK by itself, and that's mostly due to the difference in Leslie sim quality (The quality of the Leslie sim is very important to me). The ventilator has beautiful sense of motion and smooth authentic overdrive, that you just can't get out of the SK by itself. That said a lot of SK owners have Ventilators and they love the combination. I would highly recommend that if you're going to purchase an SK you keep your ventilator, if it's affordable.
There are lots of SK users that are happy with the internal sim, but I think that the number of SK owners that have invested in ventilators illustrates the fact that the Leslie sim and the overdrive in the SK are its weak link(s).
