I agree, the EQ isn't the thing to use for this. I use that when I get in a funky room with too much mids, or a real bassy situation, because I want everything affected. The good news is there's a million other ways to adjust the thing, the bad news is there's a million ways to adjust the thing. Hammond really made this thing like the original, and you can get just about any console sound into it. I would start with the tone control setting under menu-drawbars-eq. you'll see a tone control there which is similar to the little screwpot in the preamp on a b3. Dial that back it might give it to you, and that's a savable function. You can dial the highs down there too if the tone control ain't giving you what you're after. There's also a mellow tonewheel generator in there you can pick might be more what you want. Different leslie cabs do different things to the tone too. If you really want to go to extremes you can copy a mellow organ into it by creating your own set of tonewheels. I have a drifted cap CV I made that's real mellow you're welcome to also. Like I said there's a ton of ways to get there, and the EQ on the front panel is probably the worst.

I'm practicing for an upcoming benefit gig playing some Jefferson Starship tunes. I've noticed that the board sounds a bit "crisp" in tone. In the songs I'm playing along with, the Hammond sounds more mellow. This sound very crisp or biting when I play the notes. I've turned down the equalization on the treble and mid-range but it doesn't do enough to "soften" the sound. And I'm sure that impacts my next sound that I move to which is normally a straight piano.


I'm not sure if I need to load a different sound set, tweak some parameters or what.


Any thoughts from those of you experienced SK1 owners?
