learn to work..the saxophone.. i..i play just what i feel...
nice clips james..
it may be a cost constraint but maybe presenting this board with black and white key colors might be more intuitive.
i remember trying to play a vox with reverse key colors one time getting up to jam with a band impromptu, it was weird.
looking at the cory clip looks the thumb and index would go into a cramp from holding the fingers that way over a period.

If the 88 note version was affordable I'd be tempted to get one - $8,888.88 is a bit much though! Not sure why Wired have only decided to pick up on it now - it's been out for almost 2 years (released March 2013)

Thanks for posting Fox. While the interface looks interesting and obviously has a lot of potential the issue of developing a sound engine that can support all the nuance gestures will be the real breakthrough.
For AP the current best in breed modelled or sampled VST's require cutting edge CPU and RAM to get the best out of them. I use Pianoteq and am in process of setting up a 64 bit i7 16 gig Ram machine to get the best put of Painoteq. My existing i5 4 gig will not cut it, particularly where there are multiple instruments in a patch.
On the sampled side Ravenscroft is considered the current best in breed and with its large sample size (6 gigs IIRC in flac format) it needs fast RAM and an SSD to fully exploit its potential.
Given the current state of the art in both modeling and sampling and the depth of experience of the existing developers in this area it will be interesting to see if Seaboard can, from a standing start, produce VST's better than the current crop and support all the additional nuances the keybed is capable of.
As for Brass, well apart from high end orchestral sampled brass that are again resource demanding, the general consensus is that realistic keyboard generated brass that a brass player couldn't tell from a real instrument doesn't exist. In part this because of the limitions of the traditional keyboard interface, in that it is not designed to emulate breath controlled pitch, tonguing etc. Assuming this can replicated by the Seaboard keybed nuances the VST producing the sound would need to break new ground compared to what is available. A modeled brass VST would be ideal but it would be really comples if it was going to be able to do a convincing horn section reflecting the signature intonation and playing styles of say Trumpet, Bone and Sax.
Like a lot of new innovations sweeping and unrealistic claims:
Quote: "With the tuning, the fidelity is so good that Lamb says a trained ear can’t tell the difference between a Seaboard trumpet and a real one"
disguises the real innovation, which is the interface and given the current state of VST's, the initial opportuniy is for innovative synth interaction and the creation of a whole new set of sound scapes. But that is a much smaller market and won't get headlines.
