Subject:Re: Kronos CX3 vs Kurzweil KB3
Just a quick point re the Kronos.. It has been replaced by the Kronos X and there was probably some GREAT blow out pricing over the last 6+ months, and you may still find one around that's a steal if you look hard (and the Kronos X and Kronos run the same OS.. they are identical except for RAM/HD).
There are various reasons why you don't find different products in retail outlets.. Some manufacturers have very strict policies about being an authorized dealer/retailer.. Hammond, for example, is one of the most demanding.. IF you want hammond products you can't simply have an XK1c, you have to sign up (and order/stock) a wide range of their products, otherwise you cannot be authorized.. That basically eliminates the small retailers from ever selling Hammond products because it's unaffordable and/or they don't have the space.
This is not so much the case with larger stores like GC and Sam Ash, but there are other reasons.. perhaps lack of stock/availability, or decisions to only use floor space to demo higher volume products (I don't think Kurzweil is a huge seller when compared to Yamaha, Roland, or Korg). At the same time, perhaps the retailer might decide just to have ONE demo keyboard on the floor, rather than the 3-4 current models, and that simply may not be the keyboard you want to see.
Unfortunately, in the world of clones, it's VERY difficult to find different brands of clones side by side to compare sound/features. This is just business as usual in the clone world.. That is one of the reasons why this forum is so valuable to those people interested in a clone, and having difficulty choosing one over another..
Many of us have ordered expensive clones without having ever touched one!!
