So you are just talking about what you want to hear from a monitor next to you onstage realizing that a Leslie on a recording or FOH does not come from two speakers right next to each other and the image is set by the mix. You don’t have to hard pan your Leslie (or sim) RL and can affect how it sits in a stereo image (whether recorded, FOH, or monitors) however you like. ….and I agree, the Vent, burn, and some of the new internal sims are really incredible.

Not sure exactly who you're addressing the question to but, typically, those of us who use stereo cabinets (such as MS KBR 3-D, KP-200, KP-500, the aforementioned Simmons, et al) for clonewheel amplification use only one cabinet onstage. Others will have their own opinions, but I find the relative separation between channels of a stereo cabinet to be more realistic for Leslie emulation reproduction than a stereo pair of powered monitors. I have tried many times, and failed every time, to get a stereo pair in close enough proximity to match the excursion extremes of a Leslie's horn (roughly 2'), while maintaining the proper "center" image for the on-axis sweep.

While I'm certain that there are also those who would want to try to place two separate stereo cabinets onstage in an effort to achieve a dual Leslie effect (it is a well-known fact that most organists are certifiably insane), this would be practically impossible to achieve, at least with the clonewheels with which I am familiar. At best, you would wind up with two stereo cabinets reproducing the exact same rotation characteristics...add a DDL and you'll have two stereo cabinets reproduing the exact same rotation characteristics slightly out of phase, yet exactly the same. With two Leslies, you have two cabinets, each with its own unique rotation characteristics.

As an aside, the best non-Leslie two-Leslie rig I ever had was right after I got my KBR-3D, using the rotary channel on the amp, while also feeding the output of an R3-147 in my rack to a stereo pair on the other side of the stage. The room was awash, despite the shortcomings some (okay ... just about all of us) perceive in Motion Sound's rotary gear.

All of that's in the past for me now ... between MOJO's outstanding new rotary sim for my "portable" rig and Burn for my big-gig-rig, everything's covered, whether feeding FOH and monitoring through the Aviom system or running through the KBR-3D's stereo channel. I no longer use the KBR-3D's rotary channel ... the sims are just too good!

Now, on the other hand, if I could find a way to get a "dry" signal out of MOJO while running the onboard sim in stereo, perhaps I could have 2 Leslies again (out of one cabinet) by feeding the rotary channel as well. We'd just be lacking separation between the cabinets ... sort of like two Leslies stacked.

Sometimes the possibilities (and the impossibilities) boggle the mind!

Hope someone finds this helpful.

Peace,
Fox
