Subject:Re: Using stereo powered speakers with clone-sim
I haven't posted here in a while, and Yahoo so graciously retired my account. So here I am with my new identity.
My Roland clone came with an excellent set of headphones. What makes them great is clear, deep bass all the way down the scale. That is what I had been missing with my speakers until I found some 1970's Realistic Mach 1, 3 way speakers. The 12"woofers handle the bass like my head phones, with each note having the same volume all the way down. I use a Realistic MPA 250 PA stereo amp that provides plenty of clear power to drive the speakers. 150w/channel. I learned from this group to place the speakers close together and at an angle to make it more like a live Leslie.
I don't miss the rattling bass speakers, nor the quiet low notes. My set up is enough for up to 200people, but I almost never play for more than 1, me Added to my clonewheel is a Casio keyboard, and the breathy sax is amazing through my speakers. ..
Some day I hope to have time to build my own Leslie out of accumulating parts and tube amps. Until then, my set up sounds pretty nice.
