Subject:Re: Advice on tuning a Windows 7 PC for VB3?

Well that contradicts my experience running VB3 in Cantabile performer on Win 7 32 bit machine with 2 gigs of Ram and a Core Duo processor. No issues whatsoever.

As VB3 is modelled not sampled the only time HD speed would be an issue is if there are so many processes running simultaneously that RAM is exhausted and running processes are being swapped to virtual RAM.

VB3 is one of the least resource hungry VST's available which is a credit to Guido's tight code.

The issue lies either with the midi connection or the ASIO configuration.

The problem is probably that your system isn't optimized to handle the audio processing requirements of VB3 and your VST host. This is usually caused by inefficient memory usage and too many TSRs. To your credit, you turned off as many of the services as possible. If you're using a laptop, its hard drive may not be of optimal speed (7200 is really the minimum needed for any kind of audio processing). You should also disable all screensavers, all visual effects in the Win interface (i.e., dropdown boxes, etc.), disable anti-virus software (after removing your PC from a network). Defrag your hard drive, delete trash files, and turn off any hardware (disk drives, network cards, etc.) that you don't need to use. You may also want to try running VB3 in another VST host or within a DAW to see if there's any diference.
