Subject:Re: Hot out of my inbox: Kronos OS 3.0 available NOW:
BC as i was reading your post, visions of economic decisions based on sales vs. manufacturing costs or constant availability of parts to supply production popped into mind.
who knows why these makers (and i don't ever say it's an easy task to be in that business whether you're a giant corp like roland or a modest one like numa) decide to abandon a product?
hammond did that with the chorus generator on the BC, BC, and i have yet to hear why they decided to drop such a lovely sounding effect. after playing my BC one summer overseas, using the chorus drawbar, when i got back to my B3 in the midwest, i was disappointed in the B3's sound. sounded liked wicked crap, literally. it was brand new too. yes we're talking a 1930's hammond BC vs a late 60's B3 but what a drastic change in tone. and i used the same leslie so it was the organ. today there are those who dream of a chorus gen on a B3.
so back to clones. if you have something that you really like, you might want to think twice before you go for the new and "improved" as the tried and true might not be there next time around.
i'm glad that there are a bunch of you that badger these makers with updates. lobby lobby lobby. but i'm still working on my VK8m in it's 2003 incarnation.
if yamaha came out with a dedicated drawbar clone i would snap it up for as far as i've seen, their product line no matter what genre, they always put out good products.
when i was in japan searching for an electric piano, after tickling the ivories of all the major brands, and i did that store after store not just one, and with dozens of them, yamaha is what i chose.
but a yamaha clone is a pipdream.
roland is good as well in it's own sphere. after that, it's what comes out of your head that makes the difference.
with today's economy i'll bet these company execs keep a tight rein on their R&D geniuses.
when you get in front of a keyboard it needs to make sense to you the player. and not everyone is wired the same way. we are blessed with so many clones these days.
last i checked i don't have red hair. julio iglesias jr. is a country star. i just got my old red sho-bud E9 and am afraid to open the case. i most likely bought something i will never have the specific talent to be able to play.
