You should look at Ubuntu Studio. It runs the real time linux kernel.

Subject: [CWSG] What Windows Operating System to run Clonewheel Software?

I have a currently unused Lenovo T420s that I have to replace the hard drive on. I'd like to use to use it for all things musical; 1) Playing music to listen & practice, 2) Running software that slows down songs so I can learn them easier (think Amazing Slow Downer or Woodshed), 3) Run the Editors for my keyboards (Kronos, X50, and older Rolands, and possibly 4) A software based DAW playing clonewheel and other soft synth type programs with ASIO drivers etc,. In addition of course I'd need Word and other programs for day to day stuff.

I don't have another hardware option besides the Lenovo so I'm hoping it will do the trick.

If I go to stores, I can only buy Window's 8.1 regular or Pro.
If I go to Amazon, I can buy Windows 7 Home Premium, Pro, etc.

What do you recommend for easiest use with least amount of aggravation?

Thanks,
Gene
