Subject:Re: Ventilator II Questions
Keith,
Obviously you like the Vent II, and I won't argue that the vents are good sounding leslie sims. I would argue that the mini/vent II are a significant improvement over the original. I don't think that's the case.
However, you bring up one more point that is an area that the Vent/mini-vent/Vent II are lacking (in my opinion). Some other sims, including most internal sims and the Burn, have reverb built in that can be pre or post leslie sim. Many people, including myself, don't like the sound of reverb spinning around in a leslie effect.
Regarding the Burn and midi.. having midi isn't just about speed switching.. the Burn OS can be completely updated via midi sysex.. If Crumar/GSI want to add a new leslie algorithm (which they have done and I fully expect the will do again soon because their new Mojo sim is awesome).. they can simply release a new update to the user community, and in less than 5 minutes we have new features/functions/algorithms in our Burn.
There are lots of different takes/perspectives on this stuff.. and not everyone needs the extra features of the Burn. I am still of the opinion that the Vent II is overpriced given it's limited functionality. As much as I've criticized the mini-vent (for various reasons), If I really wanted the sound of the Ventilator I think I would take the mini-vent with Bruce's remote pedal switch mod over the Vent II and save a few bucks.
Just one guys opinion..
Craig
