Subject:Re: unusual use for a Vent
OK, maybe that's the unloaded voltage, but my point is that one needs
significant padding of the output.
Anyone who tries to attach a Vent to a console Hammond as a DIY
project: Be aware that a pot alone isn't really sufficient, IMO, for
the Ventilator -- although it might have been OK when using a guitar
amp. The input circuitry is solid-state, and CMOS-based. It's not
nearly as forgiving as the old amps. If one turns the pot in the wrong
direction and give the Vent the full G-G output, then it's likely that
the electronics will get damaged. (This could also account for the
'chain saw' sound described by the OP.) I've fixed a couple of these
'experiments.'
I'd recommend AC coupling the G-G output, and using a pad that is at
least the same resistance as the pot itself.Or an DI box with a
selectable 20-40dB pad is a good choice. If you go too far, the result
will be too soft a signal, and you can easily fix it. The other
direction is not so easy to correct. ;-)
