Subject:Re: Burn vs Ventilator clips

Thanks for putting these up Craig.  I guessed right but won't spoil it for everyone else until you let them know. I do prefer the sound of the Ventilator after hearing these - I mean they are both good, but to my ears, the Ventilator sounds more 3-dimensional and realistic.  I definitely feel like the Burn is cool, (or hot, actually) but not as 3-D sounding, and more harsh edges to the sound. Its better than so many others, but the Ventilator just has this special sound that is so pleasing to the ear, and it has "soul" like Dr. Lonnie Smith says!

The mini VENT for organ is going to be finally getting to the U.S. sometime in October.  Its going to sell for $349 and sound exactly like the Ventilator, (same sound engine) but it is much smaller, and it has fewer adjustments, but does have some key ones that people are going to take advantage of.  You can see photos and read more about it here:  http://www.gand.com/products/mini-VENT-for-organ-69122.html.

The Ventilator II will be coming next - an update of the original Ventilator, same sound engine, but some additional features that everyone was asking for will be there.  I don't have a list of features yet, but I'll let you know when I do.

I normally don't like playing games like this so I'll just give it a hour or so to see how many guesses we get and then I'll tell you which is which.. If you can't wait an hour or so email me and I'll let you know..

I thought #1 was warmer, but with a phaseyer sound, #2 was more authentic as far as leslie effect goes, but the overdrive was much more "digital". My guess is the vent was 1?

HammondDave has asked me for some comparison clips of the Burn Pedal vs the Ventilator Pedal that we've all come to love. I did a very quick comparison this afternoon with my MOJO and my Ventilator and the new Burn pedal. I always liked the kind of burning 122 sound that Gregg Rolie had in Samba Pa Ti, so I recorded two different MP3 tracks with me doing a verse/bridge from that song for comparison (with nice sustained chords). The OD gain and setting on the Burn and the Ventilator are both about 60% and they seem to have about the same amount of effect on each.. I didn't bother trying to match EQ or leslie settings precisely because you just asked about overdrive so the speeds, ramp up/down, or any of the other parameters that are available in the Burn haven't really been tweaked. Both clips are the Mojo with the exact same settings, and they're recorded directly into Sonar with no effects whatsoever.

So here's a 1 minute clip of each effect. I will hold off telling you which is which (some of you will probably recognize the Ventilator) but I think the two sound surprisingly close, and I basically just took the dirty 122 preset on the burn and dirtied it up a bit more to match the setting I had on the Ventilator.. There's lots more tweaking that can be done in the Burn, and I think you can get the Burn pretty close to the Vent, but the Burn has a bunch of extra effects, features etc, that will be meaningful for a some clonewheelers!! Here are the two clips..
