Subject:Burn concerns
Greetings group...
I was among the first to order Burn (9 minutes after availability was posted), and did so without first having an opportunity to read the manual, as no English translation was available for almost 48 hours.
Once I did, a couple things jumped out at me; 1) no authorized user access for replacing/testing the tube (which is a JJ ECC82) and 2) existing Mojo half-moon/foot-switches will not control Burn.
Minor? Perhaps ... but having a company require one to solicit and receive factory authorization to open up a unit to replace a tube seems ludicrous. Furthermore, I know of no other company with a product incorporating a tube (which is basically an "expendable," or component that requires periodic replacement) that does not provide for relatively easy end-user access to the valve and its housing.
As far as not being able to use current Crumar switching gear to control Burn is concerned, I appreciate that they give us a circuit schematic to build our own, but how difficult could it have been to have the unit support the company's own current accessories? Why not also allow it to support a continuous controller (like a volume pedal) simultaneous to a half-moon?
One other thing bothers me a bit ... that, despite being a "multi-fx" unit, there seems to be little utility for chaining, other than that provided by Crumar (basically rotary + reverb). It would be really nice to be able to chain a wah prior to the rotary (ala Robert Lamm) as well as ring modulator prior to either rotary or other amp models (ala Jon Lord).
Don't get me wrong ... I'm excited about this unit and can't wait to get mine. It seems to me that it already does more than any other rotary emulator on the market, and that's good. But, everyone is an editor ... and everyone has their own ideas as to how things such as this should operate. I am tickled pink that they incorporated 180 degree mic placement into this unit, as well as "unplug" states for the rotors ... which I hope they put into future MOJO OS/firmware updates.
So, that's my two cents. Hopefully Andrea I won't be called a cry-baby for voicing these concerns here!
Peace,
Fox
