Subject:RE: Can you play jazz organ on a single manual organ?

2 keyboards is ideal but that's not saying a single keyboard is impossible. Check out this video from B3 player Tony Monaco on a 6 octave keyboard.

Thanks for the perspective!  I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for a two manual clone.

Ryan, all I can say is the best move I ever made clonewise was getting the SK1, soundwise it's a dream come true. However, the worst move I ever made clonewise was getting the SK1 instead of the SK2. I thought I could get away with using split, but it's not the same. I don't even do much jazz organ, mostly blues/funk with a little fusion thrown in and I miss the two manuals, so if you're gonna learn jazz organ the right way, I'd spring for the extra to do two manuals.

Indeed. Despite all his big talk, Jimmy Smith never learned to play pedals properly, which is why most jazz organists cop out and use the left hand bass technique. To see it done properly, watch Barbara Dennerlein, Rhoda Scott, Hector Olivera, or Cameron Carpenter.

My dad said that he saw Jimmy play and that he really didn't

even play much of anything on the pedals?
