Subject:Re: Question about Roland VR-09 & Hammond SK1

Thanks Craig. With the spirit of helping other make a decision I will share my decision. I hope to get up to the store, try out both extensively and make that decision before Thanksgiving (in the US. I know you already had yours up in Canada ;-).

And I do agree, its the inspiration that matters. The synth sounds were very inspiring on the VR09, but at first glace the B3 on the SK1 was also ispiring. (Maybe by both??? LOL).

I'll let everyone know what I picked and why.

Thanks again for all the help. Genuinely, we have the most passionate members and I appreciate it.

Gene

G,

My only issue here is whether or not you're getting good advice.. It makes no difference to me whether you choose an SK1 or a VR-09 (or anything else for that matter).. I only want to make sure that the advice you get is based on accurate information, and if possible that you are getting practical advice that will help simplify your choice!

I didn't choose to take on the moderator duties on this forum because I wanted to convert everyone to Roland VR-09's!!! ;-) I took on this job because I love all of these clones, I love discussing and debating their features, I love the new technologies, I love helping people with their problems, helping people to get the most out of their clones and solving their problems.

I will be disappointed if you don't share your decision/choice with the group, because I think that your needs and how you arrived at a decision that satisfies your needs will be of great interest and value to the group. I hope that clarifies any misunderstanding!!

Regards,
Craig MacDonald

PS, my honest advice would be to choose whichever keyboard really inspires you to play.. If that's the SK1 then go for it!!! To me that is the MOST important differentiator!!

Okay everyone please calm down. I am VERY uncomfortable now being on the spotlight of "What's Gene going to choose" and the implications that which I choose is going to reflect on the opinions of those in favor of one side or the other.

The discussion has been much more than I expected and I am VERY appreciative of all the information. I learned a LOT about both that I didn't know.

But we ARE emotionally attached to our keyboards which allow us to express something inside us. So our opinions reflect that connection and we identify strongly with what works for us.

But it is going a bit too far. I will make my evaluation and make my choice. But I'm going to leave it at this; they are both great boards and I'll choose one after my extended hands on testing. But I will not be revealing my choice because I don't want to endorse any of the very valid if overly passionate opinions in the group.

Thank you all again
