It also makes one of the best controllers (for VB3, etc.). Nice action and ergonomics, TWO sets of drawbars, and all the drawbars and other major controls (percussion. C/V etc.) send MIDI CC. Considering what they go for used, I don't think there's a better deal in a clonewheel VST controller.

There are a few things folks tend to forget about the CX-3, not the least of which being the extended drawbar mode, which allows tonewheel-esque sounds unavailable from any other instrument I'm aware of.
I'll be forever indebted to David Jaques for his CX-3 settings. My digital CX-3 (tweaked using David's settings as a starting point) still holds up pretty well next to the updated incarnation of the CX-3 engine in my Kronos and, when played through my Burn, even approaches MOJO. None of them challenge my '64 B-3 through a set of 122s, but primarily because of the ergonomics and the actual "sound in the room," as opposed to "out of the box." For the record, my Frankin-B through Burn rivals the '64/dual 122 rig ... still very close, but no cigar ... perhaps it needs a Vent on the other side.
I digress ... primarily because of the extended drawbar mode, I'm hanging on to my CX-3.
Peace,
Fox

Well, I just did a side by side two nights ago, between the CX3, VR09, and SK1, because I wanted to try the CX3 once again before I put it up for sale. I have a hard time parting with clones. The VR09 was purchased because I was hauling the CX3 as a spare, and it was just too heavy to haul for something I probably wouldn't ever use. I do have a vent and real leslie here, so I tried everything from all three with internal sims, to all three through vent, then leslie. I'll just say the CX3 is going on craigslist as soon as I can get some pictures uploaded, and I won't be looking back. My first thought when I heard all three was clones have come a long way! The distance between the CX3 and the VR09 was way more than the distance between the VR09 and the SK1. It sure felt good playing that CX3 though, they got the ergonomics down on that one! That's the one thing that's still the elephant in the room for me with the VR09. Nobody seems to want to reference that but it does not feel at all hammond like to us used to the real deal.

Yes, Set List Mode and the ability to stream your own samples off SSD are, I think, the two most distinguishing features of a Kronos. And its CX3 organ really isn't bad at all especially if you're going to use a Vent or Burn. It's probably at least as good as the VR-760 or VR-09.
