Subject:Re: Question about Roland VR-09 & Hammond SK1
It's like the new keyboards on the SK series of organs. Really, nothing like the original feel of a Hammond console. In fact, I find it very heavy in comparison. Being primarily a Hammond player with real Hammond organs in my studio, I choose not to compromise. To me, the action on the XK3c was the closest to the original. But I played an SK2 at my last gig and did adjust right away.... But if I had a choice, I would play an XK3c...
Craig is correct. There is always a bit of adjustment necessary when moving from keyboard to keyboard. When I used to play both my motif XS and XK3c in my rig, I had to adjust not only to the keyboard feel of the two, but also to the difference in key width (the Yamaha synth key width is not as wide as a "normal" synth.)
The Mellotron key feel depends on the adjustment of the instrument. My M400 felt 100% better after Markus adjusted it for me. My M300 feels great, as it just came back from Streetly. Part of the charm of the Tron is the feel of it when you play it. You can almost feel the tapes dragging under the keys...
