Subject:Re: Picked up a VR09/ Vibrato in the percussion

I think that this is a "go to" sound for a few of the players who are more jazz oriented..  I have never used it, don't like it, and won't ever use it.

However, I do agree completely that it's a major oversight on Roland's part when they rolled out the VR-09.. I want the Hammond emulation to be authentic, and in every way possible (whether I happen to use that feature or not).

I think it's only a "deal breaker" for the more serious players.. many of whom probably aren't interested in the VR-09 for other reasons.. (lack of waterfall keys, dedicated Hammond style interface etc).. So I don't think it's a big deal for Roland because it's not resulting on a lot of lost sales.

I have rallied for this to be fixed in an OS update, and it was not fixed in the first one (no doubt the fixed other things that had more impact on sales), but let's hope that it does get fixed in the next!!

Regards,
Craig MacDonald

Subject: [CWSG] Re: Picked up a VR09/ Vibrato in the percussion

To answer Den's question above, the VK8m did not have vibrato in the
percussion when chorus vibrato , as the VR09 does.

Personally I see this as a huge oversight. Some people do not see this as
being a big deal but it's a deal breaker for me regarding the usefulness of the
VR09.

When the percussion is on slow decay and chorus vibrato is on ( players
like Jimmy Smith, Joey De Francesco , Brian Auger and Tony Monaco use this
extensively) the VR 09 sounds quite different than a tonewheel
Hammond. An astute listener would be able to hear a difference, regardless of
whether they were a player or not.

It was a brilliant move by the original Hammond designers to make the
percussion vibratoless. Apparently the designers of the VR09 considered this to
be unimportant, and were willing to make the compromise.

To me , the use of chorus vibrato with percussion and without leslie
simulation of any kind is very much a "go to " sound, particularly when running
in mono. It baffles me as to why Roland would overlook this. I suppose they
thought what they have was "good enough".
