Subject:Re: Picked up a VR09

I used my VR-09 all by itself at a gig a couple of weeks back, and it performed amazing..the recent update is required to allow for separate control of expression (off/on/both) for the upper and lower parts. Once that was installed, it covers the basic bread and butter keyboard parts very well. I even left my ventilator at home and used the internal sim and it sounded very good.

Opinions vary on how the non-organ voices compare.. The VR-09 does have a more comprehensive set of sounds (try to find nice warm acoustic strings on the SK), and the built-in virtual analog synth and iPad editor is also a huge advantage. lastly the VR-09 is capable of combining two non-organ sounds eg. EP plus warm strings. Even if you could find warm strings it can't be done on the SK, one part of a split/layer must be organ.

The VR keyboard isn't great but it does have a reasonably light touch, and very fast triggering for organ.. I find my Mojo keyboard feeling heavy after I've played my VR for a while. The VR-09 keyboard is actually pretty easy to get used to it., and I've seen few comments elsewhere that others are finding the same thing.. People who have purchased the VR-09, thinking that they'll try it and probably return it, don't. They really start to like it (and it really grows on you).

Thanks for the review.. If you're trying to get rid of that "VK" sound (I never liked it myself) I found that by turning the tone knob all the way to the left and increasing the compression gave me a much better sounding, very workable, organ. I also found that the type 2 Leslie sim is very similar to the ventilator, nice and warm sounding with good animation..

Thanks, and enjoy your VR-09!

Craig
