I personally think this attitude is ludicrous. You're entitled to your opinion of course, but Jim A. is no Tiger Woods with "Titleist" on his cap pulling down millions of dollars. He may be making money off endorsements, I don't know, but he has written many informative articles. His lengthy review of the Leslie 3300 even described how it burned up drivers and how the problem was tracked down and solved.

I think Kickstarter is a great way for fans to support an artist they love. Here in Seattle, Joe Doria (as good a Hammond as anyone anywhere) and his band McTuff did a Kickstarter for the mixing, mastering and promotion of their new CD they had already recorded. They were seeking $6000 and got $8000, which allowed them to also offer an LP version. You're not being asked to give them money for their own use and enjoyment, you're just buying the product in advance to say "I like what you do and I believe in you". If you don't like them, don't buy it. To me it's a better model than big corporations deciding what bands are worthy of investing huge chunks of change on, and therefore what music sees the light of day.
