Subject:Re: Non CloneWheel VST's - Off Topic?
This is an interesting question.
I think that asking for *recommendations* for good EP, strings, synth,
etc. software is fair game. These days, there aren't too many gigs
where a 'keyboard player' plays organ and nothing else. And, arguably,
the NE3 and SK1 aren't purely clonewheels, but they're discussed here
all the time. Plus, it would be nice to know if a certain VST piano
doesn't 'play nice' with VB3 before spending money on it.
Sorting through the details of getting a new piano VSTi running on your
Mac/PC/iPad is over the line, though, especially if the process takes
dozens of emails. That's what offline (off the list) communication is
for. The email of the original poster (OP) is contained in the 'From'
field of the first email of a thread; if you've accidentally deleted it,
go to the CloneWheel site on Yahoo, where you'll still find it in the
post. It's also OK to send a note saying, "Somebody mentioned using the
Arturia Polymoog on their iPad a few weeks back. Sorry, I can't
remember who the OP is, but I'd appreciated it if you'd contact me
offline. I can't seem to get it to work at all."
________
I'm sorry to be kind of determined about this, but I've been looking at
some of the other online forums that I belong to, and there isn't as
much cross-posting as goes on here:
* Members of the NordElectro forum don't discuss the SK1 or VR-09
much, unless they're considering dumping their NE3 to get one.
* The Telecaster forum (TDPRI) won't provide much help choosing
between a Gibson Les Paul and a similar Epiphone model.
* The ProSoundWeb won't help me choose a keyboard amp.
I think if this group was still called the Voce Support Group, it would
be more obvious, but this group is for discussion of Hammond B-3 clones
-- i.e., 'clonewheels.' If someone wants to start a general soft-synth
forum, go right ahead. It only takes a few minutes to start a Yahoo
Group, and if there are enough members, it's usually possible to get 1-2
co-moderators to help out. I might even join it, if I move to gigging
with VSTis.
