OK this is what I found with comparing JUST the dry signal from VB3 (on organ type B or A, with its recommended settings for dry signal) and the A101:
There is an undertone (leakage?) that the Hammond has that I cannot detect on VB3( even when adjusting the leakage level, which surprisingly does not do much on my software but the "high" setting gives it slightly more fullness) that makes the Hammond sound slightly fuller at any octave. Tone wise on 888000000 around middle C they are nearly identical. However, when the upper drawbars are engaged, the VB3 tone is considerably brighter and I can't even EQ it down enough with VB3 or my amp to match the Hammond . Maybe this is what the OP was hearing as thinness? Keep in mind that my 1961 Hammond has never been recapped as many Hammonds used out there are not. With my Leslie and its V21 HF driver , the Hammond sounds WAY brighter.
Interestingly, no matter what VB3 output I choose from Global Options, with my Vent on bypass (I did the stereo mod), only one channel broadcasts out from the Vent whereas of course both channels work in normal mode.

I have my VB3 controller right next to my Hammond 101 in my studio. Although I have not noticed a thinness anywhere in VB3 (except a little bit on organ type C) and love how it sounds, I will A/B the two sometime today and report back as I was intending to do that to tweak VB3 anyway.

The top octave or so is a bit thin for me as well on VB3 1.4, although not too much. Not a problem with 2.x.

I find the 2.x (coming on the mojo) much meatier than 1.4, much more realistic. 1.4 has other advantages, tough.
