Yep, using mini plug from my Asus netbook with VB3 into my Vent out to Powered mixer sounds awesome too.
I almost sold my Casio WK-7500 but turned it into a usable 76 key controller with split manuals set on VB3 for 133$- 100$ for the barely used netbook(CL) and 33$ for a never used Korg Nano Controller (Ebay) which has 9 sliders. They are both velcroed to the top of the keyboard and will transport all hooked up like that. I already have a Roland Volume pedal which if used in the chain before the Vent acts as an expression pedal. If anything ever goes wrong with the VST set up I can just use the WK's internal drawbar organs with the same Vent setup as I have gigged in the past, which although not as good as VB3, still sounds pretty decent in a R&R band context.

> Whatever computer you buy, you also need to think about where the audio is going, especially for a gig. Is a tablet going to have a quality audio interface and an output cable option better than a tinny 1/8" connector? Would you trust that on a gig? A notebook isn't likely to have a very good built-in audio interface, either. So you need to also think about an external audio interface that will connect to your device as well. You'll probably want this device to have MIDI connections to give you maximum connectivity to keyboards (and to let you connect both MIDI and audio to your device using a single USB connection, instead if having KB USB'd into one, interface into another, etc., which can increase latency issues.
My current MacBook Pro with its 'tiny' 1/8" output and two USB ports (no external interface of any kind) has been a champ for two years straight. This summer the roof has blown off my schedule and I'm averaging about 15 shows per month. It's feeding three controllers, is rock solid, and sounds awesome. I can't get out of a gig without someone coming up and asking what the hell I'm doing to get all that sound.
