Yeah, Gary the search ain't over...I see guys making/selling aftertouch retrofit bars for monosynths like the Pro One, Mini D and Arp and of course midi for them. Some genius will surface on the Hammond end.

Goff,
You would need a VSTi or module that would recognize and handle the 9 contacts. There isn’t one out there
at this point as far as I am aware and without it they are useless in anything but a Hammond.
Cheers,
Gary

I know there is one list member that built an awesome one. But as far as a company doing it, looks like AO might be a first. I was discussing this with John Haburay who makes chops for like Don Airey, Lady Gaga as I got my refurbed B manual from him some years ago. Its still in its box waiting for assembly with a Midi Boutique midi circuit. I'm keeping the 9 stack plungers for sure. John thought I was on to something so as synchronicity wins out, the idea spawns among like-minds like wildflowers.
One day someone might figure a way to connect software to control the 9 stack that isnt just proprietary Hammond-Suz devices. Or make 9 stack controllers from scratch! Meanwhile this is in its infancy. Kudos to those that try.

Gary,
I think we're on the same page now.. ;-)
It's a very interesting controller.. people have built similar controllers.. anyone want to speak up here..... ;-)

Craig, The controller has no latency I agree. I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) they were talking about the whole chain including
the VSTi so we are talking about two different things. Saying the “controller” has 0 latency is just marketing BS and can be
ignored. It is a true but irrelevant statement like you hear in many marketing presentations. I hear many claims from companies
that you just have to disregard. That by itself does not make the product bad. I still think it is a cool product and was a project I
was thinking about attempting at one point. The build quality seems a bit weak from those close-ups but they are probably being
built in someone’s garage somewhere, who knows.
Cheers,
Gary

Gary, I think you're missing my point. It is a controller therefore it has no latency by nature of the fact that it's a controller, the latency exists within the computer and the software that creates the sound (the time between the receipt of a midi note on and the output of the corresponding sound), and latency is entirely dependant upon the hammond emulation software, the computer it's running on, and the D/A conversion of the audio output device, it has nothing to do with the controller.
Suggesting that this is a 0 latency controller is bullshit, and it's entirely misleading.. You cannot buy this controller and expect 0 latency, because latency has nothing to do with this controller. If I buy this expensive controller and hook it up to VB3 running on my laptop, I will get exactly the same amount of latency that I get from my $400 PCR-800... and that's the fact. I'm not saying that this controller won't work in combination with VB3 and an efficient laptop and give you low (virtually unnoticeable) latency, but that has nothing to do with this controller and everything to do with the efficiency of the software and the HW it's running on.
YES the new Hammond B3 and it's little brother the portable B3 respond to all nine contacts, but that's using a proprietary system that is unavailable to you and I (except if we buy one). It's not available for use with a controller like this. 0 latency is bullshit and misleading, and yes I agree that this organization loses credibility by making this kind of ridiculous claim.

Craig MacDonald

Craig,
Only Hammond B and the B portable respond to the 9 contacts as far as I know. While there may be some
small amount of latency involved in the process if properly set up it is negligible so you are really splitting hairs.
You would have to say the same for the Mojo, Hamichord, and any VSTi based setups which are used every day
without any problems. This is why I disagree with your assessment that they lose all credibility on the issue.
I am sure that there are many on this list that use VB3 for example that do not have latency problems. While
you may not achieve absolute “0” latency it can be reduced to the point of being irrelevant IMHO, YMMV, etc.
Cheers,
Gary

G, there is no capacity within any of the Hammond software today to respond to 9 individual key contacts (at least not that I know of ), and Midi really only allows for an individual note on and not off (plus velocity into of course). It doesn't have the capacity to transmit note/tone1 on, note tone2 on, note tone 3 on etc up to tone 9 (with the tones being the 9 Hammond tones available and triggered for each note), and this would be necessary to utilize all of the 9 switches.. So this really a bit of BS.

Craig MacDonald

And if they used the original Hammond manuals, did they keep the key plungers underneath, the 9 stack, as that would be the real Hammond console feel and then where did they attach the midi wires on them? Or did they just use the keys and placed them on top of a rubber synth triggering device? Still the issue of 9 stack tone has not been addressed. Or has it?

Typically, the definition of latency (that we think about in the SW/Clone world) pertains to the time it takes between the note being struck and the sound being made.. in this case this is a controller and, in itself, it makes no sound.. so there can be no latency..
